History of Carriage House Automotive:
Carriage House Automotive was founded in 1979 by James R. Reynolds. (photo at right) It is the trading name of Marcus Enterprises which was incorporated by him in 1973. From 1973 until 1978 he owned two auto repair shops, Piney Branch Shell Gas and Service Station and Satellite Motors in Silver Springs, Maryland. By 1978 he wanted to get away from the restrictions placed on him by the Shell Oil Corporation and was tired of the long drive from Frederick to Silver Spring. By late 1979 the business was moved up to Frederick, Maryland into an old building at 10 North Carroll Street. The building had been a Carriage House and Carriage repair shop in the 1800’s so the name of the business was changed to “Carriage House Automotive”. The Grand Opening of the new Auto Repair Shop was on December 3, 1979. By the early 1980’s business was leaving downtown Frederick and a larger shop was needed, so a new facility
was designed and constructed specifically to service modern automobiles. This building opened in November of 1987 and is the current location, at 18 Wormans Mill Court, on the north end of Frederick. In 1992 the business had the distinction of becoming a Robert Bosch Certified Automobile Service Facility. The only one in the area at that time. Sadly, James Reynolds passed away in February of 2011. In 2019 we celebrated our 40th Anniversary as Carriage House Automotive. The business continues to be operated by his family who hope to keep it running for many years to come.
